Hereford is derived from two old Latin words. Ford meaning River and Here meaning Here. The city was originally a pagan site of worship, where the druids would travel from miles around to regularly sacrifice small rodents to the great pagan deity, Dulac, the god of resentfulness and despair.
The Hereford City coat of arms bears the Latin motto Invictae Fidelatiis Praemium which, roughly translated, means The Great Hole In The West.
